Symptom Cause and countermeasure
Severe hum or
noise/stations
cannot be
received.
A stereo FM
program cannot
be received in
stereo.
Cyclical static
noise is heard
while recording
on an MD.
Part of the antenna is folded, tied or rolled up.
m The supplied FM lead antenna receives signals along its entire length, so make
sure you extend it fully (see pages 6 and 7).
Part of the antenna is tied together with the speaker cord.
m Locate the antennas as far away from the speaker cords as possible.
The supplied AM antenna has come off the plastic stand.
m Consult your nearest Sony dealer.
The system is affected by electrical equipment.
m Try turning off the electrical equipment.
The tuner is set to MONO.
m Press STEREO/MONO until “STEREO” appears in the display.
Reception is poor.
m See “Severe hum or noise/stations cannot be received.” under
“Troubleshooting” on pages 88 and 89, and check the antenna condition.
The antenna is not oriented correctly.
m Adjust the antenna orientation and position until the noise stops.
MD
Symptom Cause and countermeasure
A disc cannot be
inserted.
The controls do
not work.
Play does not
start.
The sound skips.
The disc is upside-down or facing the wrong direction.
m Insert the disc with the arrow side up and the arrow pointing toward the deck.
The MD is dirty or damaged.
m Replace the MD with a new one.
The disc is dirty (e.g., oil film, fingerprints) or scratched.
m Replace the disc.
Nothing is recorded on the disc.
m Replace the disc with a recorded one.
Moisture condensation has built up on the lens inside the MD deck or on the disc.
m Insert the disc and leave the system turned on for a few hours until the
moisture evaporates.
The MD deck is not set to play mode.
m Press ·P for the MD to start play.
The disc is dirty (e.g., oil film, fingerprints) or scratched.
m Replace the disc.
