Choose a Device Naming Convention
Device Name
Decide on a unique name for the device, such as the host name.
Both Microsoft and Macintosh printing, and controller software
updates require a device name.
By default, the Microsoft Computer name is set to
GL<MAC
Address>
, where MAC Address is the unique Media Access
Control address of the NIC installed in the controller. You may
rename the device to retain consistency within your network.
Choose a unique name of up to 15 alphanumeric characters.
Please do not use the underscore (“_”) or at (“@”) characters
in the device (controller) name.
Workgroup Name
You cannot assign the GL-1020 to a Microsoft Domain. You must
assign it to a workgroup. Both Microsoft printing and controller
software updates require the workgroup name.
By default, the workgroup name is
WORKGROUP. However, you
can change it to retain consistency within your network. Choose a
name of up to 15 alphanumeric characters.
