Decide Whether to Use WINS Servers
The GL-1020 supports the WINS host name resolution service.
Using a WINS server is optional but has several advantages,
especially if you are using DHCP to dynamically assign IP
Addresses (enabled by default):
n Users can refer to the device by its name instead of its IP
address.
n Users won’t have to look up the currently assigned IP address
every time they want to access the embedded web server.
n It simplifies command line printing for LPR/LPD clients.
Determine the GL-1020 Printing Mode
Microsoft Print Modes
The GL-1020 supports the following Microsoft printing modes:
n Peer to Peer (NetBIOS on TCP/IP, and IPX/SPX)
n LPR/LPD on TCP/IP, provided Microsoft TCP/IP printing
services are installed on the client workstation
n IPP with an IPP port configured on the client workstation.
Novell Print Modes
The GL-1020 supports the following Novell NetWare printing
modes:
n NetWare 4.x Bindery mode PSERVER or RPRINTER
n NetWare 4.x, 5.x or 6.x NDS mode PSERVER or
NPRINTER
n NetWare NDPS printer agent (using the TOSHIBA NLM-
based gateway)
AppleTalk
• The GL-1020 supports all Macintosh computers that use
AppleShare, which includes all workstations running version
6.0.7 (or later) operating system except for the Macintosh XL
and 128K.
