The procedure for storing IR command codes in VS-6/Library 2
is the same as storing IR command codes in the source device
memory pages, with one difference: the command codes for Power
On and Power Off are eliminated. The fi rst command code to be
learned will be Play.

NOTE: IF ANY RECEIVED IR COMMAND CANNOT BE CORRECTLY
PROCESSED, OR IS CORRUPT FOR ANY REASON, [IR INVALID] WILL
APPEAR ON THE DISPLAY
BUILDING IR SEQUENCES FOR SOURCE DEVICES
Sequences issue a specifi c set of IR commands when a source is
selected. Some uses for sequences might be:
• A specifi c disc is played when the CD is selected.
• The tuner always tunes to a certain preset when it
is selected.
• Selecting the DVD can turn on the TV and close
the draperies.
NOTE: IF A SELECTED SOURCE IS ALREADY PLAYING IN ANOTHER
ZONE, OR THE SOURCE IS IN AN OFF-DELAY, THE SEQUENCE WILL NOT
BE ISSUED. WHEN A SOURCE IS TURNED OFF IN A ZONE AND IS NOT
PLAYING IN ANY OTHER ZONE, IT IS NOT TURNED OFF UNTIL AFTER A
DELAY OF SEVERAL MINUTES.
TO BUILD A SEQUENCE FOR A SOURCE DEVICE
1. Press each Function button on the Niles R-8L remote that
corresponds to each command of the start-up sequence
for the Tuner, in the order the commands will occur.
NOTE: PRESS THE APPROPRIATE SOURCE BUTTON BEFORE PRESSING
THE FUNCTION BUTTON TO SPECIFY WHICH DEVICE COMMANDS
ARE USED.

2. To add a function from Library1 or the VS-6 Library,
press the respective Library button prior to pressing
each function button.
3. The “Enter IR” LED will blink as each command is
received, and the display number will increment up to
indicate the current step number. Sequences may have
up to 64 steps.

4. To insert delays, use the Volume + or – buttons.
(Volume + Adds 1 sec, Volume – Subtracts .5 sec.)
When adding a delay the display will show the
cumulative delay amount in this step.

5. Press Program at any time to move to the next memory
page. Sequences are built for each source in order, and
then the menu returns to the IR learning page for source 3.
6. Repeat these steps for each source that is to have a
start-up command sequence.
IR PROGRAM EDITING AND ERASING
EDITING OR ERASING INDIVIDUAL IR COMMANDS.
1. While in programming mode, press Program until the
desired source device memory page is displayed.

2. To edit or erase the Power On Command:
a. To re-learn the command, follow steps 3 and 4 in
the section “
To Learn Source Device Commands
”.
b. To erase the Power On command for this source,
press the Erase button. [ERASE COMMAND -/NO
+/YES] will appear on the display.
ERASE COMMAND
-/NO +/YES
i. Press + to erase the command. The display will
return to the [TEACH POWER ON] screen.
ii. Press to exit the option without erasing the
command. The display will return to the [TEACH
POWER ON] screen.
