Section 16 : Waterfall Spectra at RPM Intervals
Spectra can be acquired at fixed RPM intervals with RPM STEP ARM. This feature
allows spectra to be taken at uniform RPM intervals even during erratic run-ups.
Setting Up the Tachometer
Connect the tachometer signal to the TACH BNC connector on the back of the
AGILENT 35670A. Set up tachometer parameters as follows, assuming that the
tachometer is a 1 V peak signal with 2 pulses per revolution:
Press the [Trigger] hardkey.
Press the [TACHOMTER SETUP] softkey (F8).
Press the [TACH PULS PER REV] softkey (F8).
Enter 2 then press the [ENTER] softkey (F1).
Toggle the [TACH DISP ON OFF] softkey (F6) until ON is highlighted.
Specifying the Start RPM
To set up RPM interval triggering, refer to the preceding section regarding Time
Step Arm, then follow these instructions:
Press the [Trigger] hardkey.
Press the [ARM SETUP] softkey (F7).
Select the [RPM STEP ARM] softkey (F3).
Press the [START RPM] softkey (F6).
Press 1000 then the [RPM] softkey (F1).
This starts the measurement when 1000 RPM.
Press the [RPM STEP SIZE] softkey (F7).
Press 25 then the [RPM] softkey (F1).
This arms the measurement every 25 RPM.
Collecting a Specified Number of Spectra During an RPM Interval
Acquire a specified number of spectra into a waterfall during an RPM run-up using
RPM step arm. Divide the total RPM interval by the number of spectra desired
during the interval to determine the desired RPM STEP SIZE. For example to
measure 15 spectra during an RPM run-up from 1000 RPM to 1750 RPM, select an
RPM STEP SIZE of 50 as follows:
Press the [Trigger] hardkey.
Select the [ARM SETUP] softkey (F7).
Select the [RPM STEP ARM] softkey (F4).
Press the [START RPM] softkey (F6).
Press 1000 then the [RPM] softkey (F1).
Press the [RPM STEP SIZE] softkey (F7).
