Speakers
The left and right sounds are unbalanced or
reversed.
Check that the speakers and components are
connected correctly and securely.
Select “CENTER” in the BALANCE menu
(page 37).
The sound comes from the center speaker
only.
Depending on the disc, the sound may come from
the center speaker only. Refer to the operating
instructions supplied with the disc.
There is no sound from the subwoofer.
Check that the speakers and components are
connected correctly and securely.
Set the sound field to “A.F.D. AUTO” (page 70).
Set the speaker output to “2.1CH” or “5.1CH”
(page 69).
There is no sound from the center speaker.
Check that the speakers and components are
connected correctly and securely.
Set the sound field to “C.ST.EX A (or B, C)”
(page 70).
Set the speaker output to “5.1CH” (page 69).
There is no sound from the surround
speakers.
Check that the speakers and components are
connected correctly and securely.

Depending on the disc, the recorded sound level
may be too low. Refer to the operating instructions
supplied with the disc.
The surround effect is difficult to hear when
you are playing a Dolby Digital or MPEG audio
sound track.
Press SOUND FIELD +/– repeatedly to select a
sound effect other than “A.F.D. AUTO”
(page 70).
Depending on the DVD, the output signal may not
be the entire 5.1 channel. It may be monaural or
stereo even if the sound track is recorded in Dolby
Digital or MPEG audio format.
The sound loses stereo effect when you play a
VIDEO CD, CD, or MP3.
Set “AUDIO” to “STEREO” in the Control Menu
display (page 25).
DVD/VIDEO CD/CD/Super Audio
CD/MP3/JPEG player
“LOCKED” appears.
Contact your Sony dealer or local authorized Sony
service facility.
The disc does not eject.
Consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Stop Synchro recording, then eject the disc.
Play does not start.
Check whether a disc is loaded. (The disc
indicator lights up when a disc is loaded.)
Wipe the disc clean (page 97).
Replace the disc.
Place the disc that this system can play (page 5).
Place the disc correctly.
Load the disc in the player with the label side up.
Remove the disc and wipe away the moisture on
the disc, then leave the system turned on for a few
hours until the moisture evaporates.
Press SA-CD/DVD N to start play.
The region code on the DVD does not match the
system.
Cancel the Custom Parental Control function
(page 32).
Custom Parental Control is set but the display
for entering the password does not appear.
Set Custom Parental Control for the layer to be
limited.
You are playing a multi-channel Super Audio
CD but cannot obtain sound effects.
Switch the audio to select the multi-channel area
(page 25).
Set speaker output to “5.1CH” (page 69).
The sound skips.
Wipe the disc clean (page 97).
Replace the disc.
Try moving the system to a place without
vibration (e.g., on top of a stable stand).
Try moving the speakers away from the system, or
placing them on separate stands. When you listen
to a track with bass sounds at high volume, the
speaker vibration may cause the sound to skip.
Play does not start from the first track.
Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until both “PGM”
and “SHUF” disappear to return to Normal Play.
Resume Play has been selected. Press x in stop
mode, then start playback (page 16).
The title, DVD or PBC menu automatically
appears on the screen.
