You can take advantage of surround sound
simply by selecting one of system’s pre-
programmed sound fields. They bring the
exciting and powerful sound of movie theatres
into your home.
The sound fields that can be selected differ
according to the speaker output selection and the
sound source to be played.
1 Press SPEAKER OUT MODE
repeatedly to select the speaker output
you desire.
2 Press SOUND FIELD + or – repeatedly
to select the effect you desire.
Each time you press the button, the display
changes as follows:

During playing a Super Audio CD, the sound
field is fixed to “A.F.D. AUTO” or “2CH
STEREO”.

DCS (Digital Cinema Sound) technology is
used.
• A.F.D. AUTO (Auto Format Direct Auto):
The sound recorded on the source is output as
is.
• PRO LOGIC: Performs Pro Logic decoding.
The source recorded in 2 channels is decoded
into 4 channels.
• PL II MUSIC: Performs the Pro Logic II
music mode decoding. This setting is ideal for
normal stereo sources such as CDs.
• PL II MOVIE: Performs Pro Logic II movie
mode decoding. This setting is ideal for
movies encoded in Dolby Surround. In
addition, this mode can reproduce sound in
5.1 channels when watching videos of
overdubbed or old movies.
• ROCK, POP, JAZZ, CLASSIC, DANCE:
Sound field effects suited to each genre can be
obtained.
• 2CH STEREO: The sound recorded on the
source is output as is.
About Cinema Studio EX
Cinema Studio EX is ideal for enjoying the
movie software encoded with multi channel
format, such as the Dolby Digital DVD. This
mode reproduces the sound characteristics of
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s studios.
Cinema Studio EX consists of the following
three elements.
• Virtual Multi Dimension
Creates 5 sets of virtual speakers surrounding
the listener from a single pair of actual
surround speakers.
• Screen Depth Matching
In a movie theater, sound seems to come from
inside the image reflected on the movie
screen. This element creates the same
sensation in your listening room by shifting
the sound of the front speakers “into” the
screen.
• Cinema Studio Reverberation
Reproduces the reverberations peculiar to a
movie recording studio.
Cinema Studio EX is the integrated mode which
operates these elements simultaneously.
x C.ST.EX A (Cinema Studio EX A)
Reproduces the sound characteristics of the
Sony Pictures Entertainment “Cary Grant
Theater” cinema production studio. This is a
standard mode, great for watching most any type
of movie.
Selecting the surround
effect
