Recording level adjustment
A Adjustment reference
When recording analog input, adjust the recording level so
that the OVER-level indicator does not light even when the
highest, or peak, level is input. Sound may be distorted if the
OVER-level indicator lights.
B Level meter
The level meter segments light to indicate the input level
during recording or play level during playback.
a Each segment lights when the indicated level is exceeded.
b Lights between –1 dBfs and under 0 dBfs.
c Lights at levels greater than 0 dBfs.
C Track number write operation
Standard CD-digital audio contains the recording of track
numbers so individual tracks can be selected and played.
When recording with a CD-R recorder, however, you need to
write the tracks yourself. When recording from digital
sources containing track number information such as a CD,
MD, DAT, or DCC, a new track number is recorded
automatically when this unit detects a track change from the
digital source. When recording a source which does not
contain track number information, such as an analog source,
satellite broadcast (DBS) or DVD, track numbers can be
assigned either automatically or manually.
Automatic track writing is performed when the AUTO TRACK
indicator lights in the display. This function assumes that
silent passages longer than two seconds mark the area
between two tracks and automatically starts a new track
number when a sound is detected next. Depending on the
nature of the source being recorded, the minimum level
required to indicate the area between tracks can be adjusted
(page 66).
Occasionally, passages with a low input level or noise during
passages that are supposed to be silent causes the
automatic track writing function to misjudge where new track
numbers should be created. In cases like these, it may be
beneficial to create track numbers manually. With manual
track writing, you can assign track numbers anywhere you
like within the recording. However, no more than 99 tracks
can be written on a disc, and tracks cannot be shorter than
four seconds in length. (Please remember that it is
impossible to add track numbers once recording has been
completed.)
For the automatic and manual track writing procedures, refer
to page 80.
