D Disc maintenance
÷ When a recorded disc is marked with a fingerprint or dust it is
possible for the replay signal quality to be degraded.
Therefore always try to keep the disc surface clean. Should
cleaning be required, use a soft cloth either dry or moistened
with a little alcohol, and wipe lightly from the center of the
disc towards the disc edge.
÷ An optional disc cleaning kit is recommended.
÷ Do not use a vinyl record cleaning spray or anti-static cleaning
materials. Also ensure that volatile chemicals such as
benzene or cellulose thinners are not spilt on discs, for these
chemicals can permanently damage the disc surface.
E Disc storage
÷ CD-R, CD-RW and CD discs are made of plastic, and care
should be taken to ensure they do not get warped or bent.
Always store discs in cases and stand the case upright. Avoid
storing discs in direct sunlight, extremely high or low
temperatures or high humidity. It is recommended never to
leave a disc on a car seat in sunlight, as the temperature can
become extremely high.

÷ Do not stick labels on the back of the disc unless they are
supplied specifically for CD labelling. Ensure the label surface
does not get scratched or damaged.
Use only a pen specifically designed for writing on CD’s as
other pens could damage the disk. Never use any writing
instrument with a hard point (ballpoint pen, pencil etc.) as they
