4.6 Monitoring Downmixes
TheDP570allowsyoutoau ditionvariousdownmixesbeforefinalizingthecontent.
Previewingdownmixconditionsisessentialinprovidingthebestpossibleaudioqualityin
listeningenvironmentswithfewerspeakers.SelectaDownmixmodeandmakenecessary
adjustmentstothemetadataorthesourcemixaccordingly.
Youcansetupseparate
setsofspeakersfordifferentdownmixconditions,sendingastereo
downmixtotheleftandrightspeakersinyour5.1listeningenvironment,thentoa
differentsetofstereospeakersjustbychangingyourspeakerselectionsetting.Itisagood
ideatohavealow‐gradealternatespeakerconfigurationset
uptomonitorthestereoand
monodownmixestomakesureprogramcontentplaysappropriatelyin
“fidelity‐challenged”environments.
TomonitorthevariousdownmixesintheDolbyRemote570application,clickanyofthe
buttonsshowninFigure 4‐3,thenadjustsetting sonthemetadatatabsasnecessary.

4.7 Measuring and Setting the Dialogue Level
Thedialoguelevelparameter,alsoknownasdialoguenormalizationordialnorm,isavital
elementinaudiocontentcreation.Theproperdialoguelevelvalueensuresthat the
consumerhearsdifferentprogramsatthesamelevel.SeeDialogueLevelonpage 86fora
detailedexplanationofthedialoguelevelparameter.Thedialogue
levelforeachprogram
mustbecarefullymeasuredandthenappropriatelyset.Thisiseasyusingthecontrolinthe
DialogueLevelSetareaoftheDolbyRemote5 70,showninFigure 4‐4.

Tosetthedialoguelevelparameter,thefirstandmostimportantstepisselectingaudioclip
samplesthatrepresenttheaverageloudnessleveloftheprogramcontent.Rememberthat
thedialoguelevelparameterestablishesthelevelfornormaldialogueintheprogram;
quieterandlouderscenestendtoshowhigheror
lowermeasurementsthanthecorrect
