D.7 Extended Bitstream Information Parameters
Inresponsetorequestsfromcontentproducers,DolbyLaboratoriesmodifiedthe
definitionsofseveralmetadataparametersfromtheiroriginaldefinition asdescribedin
ATSCdocumentA/52.Thereviseddefinitionsallowmoreinformationtobecarriedabout
theaudioprogramandalsoallowmorechoicesforstereodownmixing.Whenthe
metadataparameters
carriedinDolbyDigitalwerefirstdescribed,theyweregenerically
calledBitstreamInformation,orBSI.Werefertotheadditionalparameterdefinitionsas
ExtendedBSI.
Becausethereviseddefinitionsaffectmetadataparametersthatwerenotusedbythe
consumerdecoders,alldecoderswillbecompatiblewiththerevisedbitstream.Newer
decodersthatareprogrammedtodetectanddecodethenewparameterswillbeableto
implementthenewfeaturesExtendedBSIprovides.
Productsthatallowemulationofthe effectsofmetadata,suchastheDP570,normallyhave
afeaturethatallowsemulationofanew(orcompliant)decoderoralegacy
decoder.
D.7.1 Preferred Stereo Downmix Mode
ThisparameterallowstheproducertoselecteithertheLt/RtortheLo/Rodownmixina
consumerdecoderthathasstereooutputs.Consumerreceiversareabletooverridethis
selection,butthisparameterprovidestheopportunityfora5.1channelsoundtracktoplay
inLo/Romodewithoutuserintervention.Thisis
especiallyusefulonmusicmaterial.
Note:Thisparametershouldalwaysbeturnedoffwhenyouareworkingwithsteady
statetonesfortestingpurposes;calibrationdiscsforexample.
