Preparing for the Upgrade
The COMMAND/POST Upgrade Guide for HP-UX Systems includes the procedures and
instructions you need to upgrade COMMAND/POST® 3.2.3 on HP-UX 10.20 to
COMMAND/POST® 4.1 on HP-UX 10.20 successfully.
The information in this section outlines the tasks associated with the upgrade procedure,
presents information about how the book is organized, lists system prerequisites, and describes
assumptions and processing associated with the upgrade procedure. Specifically, this section

What Are the COMMAND/POST Upgrade Tasks
The COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 to COMMAND/POST 4.1 upgrade procedure includes the
following tasks:
1. Backing up the current COMMAND/POST database and configuration files
2. Upgrading the system and applying appropriate HP-UX patches on all your
COMMAND/POST workstations (see “Upgrading Your System and Installing
COMMAND/POST 4.1” on page 21)
3. Installing COMMAND/POST 4.1 (see “Upgrading Your System and Installing
COMMAND/POST 4.1” on page 21)
4. Restoring the COMMAND/POST database (see “Running the Postinstallation Script” on
page 25)
5. Regenerating the filter files (see “Backing Up Additional COMMAND/POST
Configuration Directories” on page 17 and “Running the Postinstallation Script” on page
25)
Note: Other files, such as triggers, EXECs, maps, charts, queries, etc., are not restored
by the postinstallation script.
6. Starting COMMAND/POST and performing migration tasks associated with upgrading
COMMAND/POST (see “Completing the Upgrade Process after COMMAND/POST Is
Installed” on page 36)
