Running the Postinstallation Script 25
Running the Postinstallation Script
The postinstallation script updates the databases with the preinstallation script information and
regenerates any existing, manually restored filter files located in a defined directory. (See
“Restoring the Upgrade and Filter Files to the COMMAND/POST 4.1 rmdhost” on page 26.)
It restores the data from your COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 database to your new
COMMAND/POST 4.1 database.
Note: If there are tables, stored procedures, or type definitions that you do not want restored
in your new COMMAND/POST 4.1 system, see “Customizing the Postinstallation
Script” on page 23 for information on how you can customize the postinstallation
script.
Before You Begin
You must be logged on to the rmdhost system as root to run the postinstallation script.
While running this script, a log file named Post41Install.log is created and stored in the
/tmp directory.
Ensure that you have completed the Upgrade Planning Form on page 7. You need to reference
information from this form while running the postinstallation script.
Ensure that all COMMAND/POST Desktops are shut down. Any interaction with the Desktop
before or during restoration of the master and agc databases can result in serious damage to
the restoration process.
The postinstallation script provides you with an opportunity to back up your master and agc
databases to the agcdump device directly after restoring and upgrading your data to the
COMMAND/POST 4.1 database. You defined your COMMAND/POST 4.1 agcdump device
during installation. If your agcdump device is a tape drive, the tape drive must be attached to
the COMMAND/POST database workstation and you need at least two tapes before you start
the postinstallation script. If your agcdump device is a disk file, the directory containing the file
must be mounted as a local file system to the COMMAND/POST database workstation before
you start the postinstallation script.
The default dump device is agcdump. If agcdump is defined as a tape device, it must be a
non-rewinding device. If agcdump is defined as a disk device, the database backup order is as
follows:
The master database will be backed up to the default file name defined by the agcdump
device.
The agc database backup file name will be concatenated with .agc.
The sybsystemprocs backup file name will be concatenated with .procs.
Make sure directory and dump files are writable to all (u–user, g–group, o–other).
The postinstallation script only runs on the rmdhost workstation.
