26 COMMAND/POST Upgrade Guide for HP-UX Systems
Restoring the Upgrade and Filter Files to the COMMAND/POST 4.1
rmdhost
Wherever the upgrade and filter files are located, you must restore them to the
COMMAND/POST 4.1 rmdhost before running the postinstallation script. The default
directory for the upgrade files is /home/u/NetCmmnd/upgrade; the default directory for the
filter files is /home/u/NetCmmnd. Different directories may have been selected for these files.
Note: The directory names for the upgrade and filter files are listed on the Upgrade Planning
Form on page 7.
If you installed COMMAND/POST 4.1 on to a new workstation or hard disk, you can mount
the /home/u/NetCmmnd file system on the COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 rmdhost on to the
COMMAND/POST 4.1 rmdhost workstation to restore the upgrade and filter files.
If you installed COMMAND/POST 4.1 on to the same workstation or hard disk where
COMMAND/POST 3.2.3 was installed, you must restore the upgrade and filter files from the
dump device. This dump device is a disk file or a tape device.
• If the dump device is a disk file, mount the directory containing the file to the
COMMAND/POST 4.1 rmdhost to restore the upgrade and filter files.
• If the dump device is a tape device, perform the following instructions to restore the
upgrade and filter files.
To restore the /home/u/NetCmmnd directory from tape:
1. Log on as root to the rmdhost workstation.
Note: The root password for this workstation is listed on the Upgrade Planning Form on
page 7.
2. Ensure that the tape device is attached to the rmdhost and that the correct backup tape is
inserted into the device.
3. Change to the directory where you want the files to be restored. For example, if you want
to restore upgrade files to the /tmp/upgrade directory:
4. Create an upgrade directory:
5. Change to the /tmp/upgrade directory.
# cd /tmp
# mkdir upgrade
Do not restore the /home/u/NetCmmnd directory from the tape to the root directory; you
will overwrite your existing /home/u/NetCmmnd directory.
