MULTIPLE AMPLIFIER COMBINATIONS
ThePA400.1, PA600.1,and PA1200.1 subwoofer amplifiers
canalso beused inMultiples ofthe MASTER/SLAVE combi-
nationsallowing for unlimitedexpansion to asystem’s sub-
woofersection. Touse multiplesof amplifiercombinations
thefollowing directions mustbe adheredto forbest results.
AudioSignal—Dividethe headunit orprocessor
audiosignal to the masteramplifiers byusing RCAY
adapters.Be sure to divide theman evennumber of
timesto ensurethe input levelat eachmaster ampli-
fieris matched.
AmplifierConfiguration—Setup eachMASTER/
SLAVEamplifier combination asdescribed forthe
combinationtype being used.(Refer to theParallel
SyncedGain orthe External SyncedBridged section
ofthis guide foramplifier andspeaker connection
descriptions.)
CROSSOVER SETTINGS
AND GAIN ADJUSTMENT
YourPolk Audio poweramplifier needsto beadjusted
carefullyto achievemaximum performance. Theseare
someguidelines to follow whenfine-tuning theamplifier.
Becausethis amplifier is onlydesigned forsubwoofer
applications, the low-pass crossover is activeat all
times.The crossoverpoint is adjustable toallow
moreprecise systemoperation.
Tryand keepthe setting lowenough to prevent image
smearing(you should notbe ableto hearmale voices
fromthe subwoofer)but not solow as to create agap
betweenthe subwoofer andthe mid-bass/midrange
speakers.It willbe toyour advantageto spendsome
extratime withthis adjustment, listening tofamiliar
musicor systemset-up discsto achievethe kindof
musicalreproduction thatyou prefer.
Thegain adjustmentallows youto setproper signal
matchfor clean,quiet amplifieroperation. Startby
playingsome musicyou arefamiliar with.With thegain
adjustmenton theamplifier in the middleof itsrotation,
bringup thevolume onyour headunit to the 3/4volume
settingor untilyou startto hear distortionor clipping.
Ifyou heardistortion beforeyou reachthe 3/4volume
settingof yourhead unit, reduce thegain settingon the
amplifierand startto raisethe headunit volumeagain.
Whenyou can listento themusic at or slightly above
3
/4on yourhead unitwithout audibledistortion, slowly
raisethe gainof theamplifier untildistortion isheard,
thenback offthe gainuntil thedistortion isnot audible.
Thissetting willallow youto reachfull outputwith all
butthe quietestof sourcematerial, while avoiding
excessivenoise inthe system.
Forsystems using theRemote SubLevel Adjustment,
increasethe subwoofergain onthe amplifier by25%
andset theRemote SubLevel knobto thecenter position
aftermaking allsystem gainand filter adjustments.
Thiswill give theRemote SubLevel Controla wider
rangeof adjustmentto thesubwoofer output.
Youshould take intoconsideration theeffect thatgain
adjustmenthas on systemfrequency responseand
staging.Again, planon spendingsome timewith music
thatyou knowgetting thegain and crossoversettings
theway youlike. Testdiscs andanalyzers mayhelp
withthis process, but inthe endit’s yourears that
count,listen tothe music!
LED TUBE INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL)
NOTE:If theoptional fan ISNOT beingused, werecom-
mendthat thesecond LEDtube be wired tothis circuit. If the
optionalfan isbeing used,we recommendthat thesecond
LEDtube be wired inparallel withthe firstLED tube.
