Speaker system setup
• Before performing speaker system setup, make sure that the speakers have been connected properly.
• To get optimized surround effects, you need the correct speaker setting for your speaker system and listening environment.
What is "System Setup"?
In Speaker Setup, you perform the following three operations. You may use either the on-screen display or front panel switches.
• Speaker Setup
• Speaker Distance
• Level Calibration
Speaker Setup
Set the frequency range covered by each speaker type.
For a typical speaker system with six speakers, set "LARGE/SMALL"
or "YES" for all speaker types.
SW(Subwoofer): Set this to "YES" if your system includes a
subwoofer and to "NO" if you do not have a
subwoofer.
L/R (Left and Right Set this to "LARGE" usually. "LARGE" will be
front speakers): set automatically if your system does not
include a subwoofer. Set it to "SMALL" if your
L/R front speakers cannot cover the bass range.
C (Center speaker): If L/R is set to "LARGE", set this to "LARGE",
"SMALL" or "NONE". Select "NONE" if no
center speaker is present. If L/R is set to
"SMALL", set it to "SMALL" or "NONE".
LS/RS (Left and If L/R is set to "LARGE", set this to "LARGE",
Right Surround "SMALL" or "NONE". Select "NONE" if the
speakers): surround speakers are not present. If L/R is set
to "SMALL", set this to "SMALL" or "NONE".
Note:
The following is the factory setting for each speaker type:

Available combination of each speaker type setting
Distance setting
For each speaker type, set the distance from your listening position to
where the speaker(s) is (are) located.
L/R: Distance from listening position to L/R front speaker position.
C: Distance from listening position to Center speaker position.
LS/RS: Distance from listening position to L/R Surround speaker
position.
Level calibration (Channel balance setting)
Adjust the output level of each speaker.
First set the output level using the test tone. Adjust it so that a test tone
of the same volume can be heard from all speakers.
If you press the MULTI-CH INPUT button...
"Speaker Setup", "Speaker Distance", and ""Level Calibration" are
unnecessary. For details, see "Playing the input source connected to the
MULTI CHANNEL INPUT connector" on page 29.
