SMS (Short Message Service)
Downloading the SMS
Download the short message (SMS) arrived at the
cell-phone so that it can be read on this unit.

Enter Bluetooth mode
Press the [ ] button.
You can also select from “Settings” in Menu List
mode.

Enter SMS download mode
Turn the [VOL] knob and press it when the
desired item is displayed.
Select “BT Settings” > “SMS” > “SMS
Download”.

Start downloading
Press the [VOL] knob.
“Downloading” is displayed.
When the downloading finishes, “Completed” is
displayed.

Exit BT Settings mode
Press the [ ] button.
• Thecell-phonemustbeabletotransmittheSMSusing
Bluetooth. Setting on the cell-phone may be required.
If the cell-phone does not support SMS function, the
SMS download item in Function Control mode is not
displayed.
• WhentheSMSisdownloadedfromthecell-phone,the
unopened messages in the cell-phone are opened.
• Thealready-readandunreadshortmessagescanbe
respectivelydownloadedupto149.
SMS (Short Message Service)
The SMS arrived at the cell-phone is displayed on
the receiver.
A newly arrived message is displayed.

• Topreventcaraccidents,thedrivershouldnotreadthe
SMS while driving.
When a new message arrives
“SMS Received” is displayed.
The display disappears with any operations.
Displaying the SMS

Enter Bluetooth mode
Press the [ ] button.

Enter SMS Inbox mode
Turn the [VOL] knob and press it when the
desired item is displayed.
Select “SMS Inbox”.
A message list appears.

Select a message
Turn the [VOL] knob.
Each pressing of the [DISP] button switches
between telephone number or name and message
reception date.

Display the text
Press the [VOL] knob.
Turning the [VOL] knob scrolls the message.
Pressing the [VOL] knob again returns to the
message list screen.

Exit SMS Inbox mode
Press the [MENU] button.

Exit BT Settings mode
Press the [ ] button.
• Theunopenedmessageisdisplayedatthebeginning
of the list. Other messages are displayed in the order of
reception.
• TheSMSthathasarrivedwhenthecell-phoneisnot
linked with Bluetooth cannot be displayed. Download
the SMS.
• Theshortmessagecannotbedisplayedduring
downloading the SMS.

SMS reply setting
You can select a method to reply to the received
SMS.
Enter Bluetooth mode
Press the [ ] button.
Enter SMS Reply mode
Turn the [VOL] knob and press it when the
desired item is displayed.
Select “BT Settings” > “SMS” > “SMS Reply”.
Set to the desired Reply setting
Reply setting Display Operation
Auto “AUTO” Replies to the received SMS
automatically.
Manual MANUAL Sets whether to reply to the
received SMS.
OFF “OFF” Does not reply to the received SMS.
Turn the [VOL] knob to select Reply setting,
and then press the [VOL] knob.
Exit SMS Reply mode
Press the [MENU] button.

Exit BT Settings mode
Press the [ ] button.
• Setthereplymessageaccordingto<Return message
setting> (page 62).
• When “Auto” is selected, a reply is made only to the
SMS from the phone whose phone number has been
registered in the phone book. If an SMS is received
from the phone whose phone number has not been
registered in the phone book, you can reply to it in the
same manner as you selected “Manual”.
•
“Send Error” is displayed in case of failure in transmission
of the message which is automatically returned when
“Auto” is selected for Reply setting. While “SMS Resend” is
still displayed on the display, selecting “YES” resends the
reply. Selecting “NO” cancels the reply.
Return message setting
You can select a return message (language).
Enter Bluetooth mode
Press the [ ] button.
Enter SMS Message mode
Turn the [VOL] knob and press it when the
desired item is displayed.
Select “BT Settings” > “SMS” > “SMS Message”.
Set to the desired message (language)
Turn the [VOL] knob to select message
(language), and then press the [VOL] knob.
Exit SMS Message mode
Press the [MENU] button.

Exit BT Settings mode
Press the [ ] button.
• Ifyouselect“User”fromthemessage,thepreviously
created original message will be sent. Refer to <Creating
an original message> (page 63).
