TROUBLESHOOTING
Refer to the chart below when this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed
below or if the instruction below does not help, set this unit in the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, and contact
the nearest authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center.
General
Problem
This unit fails to turn
on when STANDBY/
ON (or SYSTEM
POWER) is pressed,
or enters in the
standby mode soon
after the power has
been turned on.
On-screen display
does not appear.
No sound and/or no
picture.
Cause
The power cord is not connected or the
plug is not completely inserted.
The IMPEDANCE SELECTOR switch
on the rear panel is not fully set to the
left or right position.
The protection circuitry has been
activated.
This unit has been exposed to a strong
external electric shock (such as lightning
and strong static electricity).
The setting for the on-screen display is
set to DISPLAY OFF.
The GRAY BACK setting under 13
DISPLAY SET on the SET MENU is
set to OFF, and no video signal is input
to this unit.
Incorrect input or output cable
connections.
An appropriate input source has not been
selected.
The speaker connections are not secure.
The main speakers to be used have not
been selected properly.
The volume is turned down.
The sound is muted.
The signals that this unit cannot
reproduce such as a CD-ROM are being
input.
The output and input for the picture are
connected to different types of video
jacks.
Remedy
Firmly connect the power cord.
Set the switch fully to the left or right position when this unit is in
the standby mode.
Make sure all speaker wire connections on this unit and on all
speakers are secure and that the wire for each connection does not
touch anything other than its respective connection.
Set this unit in the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, plug
it back in after 30 seconds, and start operating.
Select the full display or short display mode (see page 23).
Set GRAY BACK to AUTO to always show the OSD (see page
65).
Connect the cables properly. If the problem persists, the cables
may be defective.
Select an appropriate input source with INPUT or 6CH (INPUT)
(or the input selector buttons) (see page 27).
Secure the connections (see page 11).
Select the main speakers with SPEAKERS A and/or B (see page
27).
Turn up the volume.
Press MUTE or any operation buttons of this unit to cancel a
mute and adjust the volume (see page 28).
Play a source whose signals this unit can reproduce.
Make connections using the same type of jack (between
S VIDEO, VIDEO (composite), or COMPONENT VIDEO jacks)
for both the input and output.
