Connecting a DVD player
Different DVD players offer a different selection of
connections, but all should give you at least a digital
audio output, stereo analog audio outputs and a video
output. Additionally, you may have a player with
multichannel analog audio outputs and different kinds of
video outputs to choose from.
1 Connect a coaxial digital audio output on your
DVD player to the DIGITAL 3 (DVD/LD) input on this
receiver.
Use a coaxial digital audio cable for the connection.
If your DVD player only has an optical digital output,
you can connect it to one of the optical inputs on this
receiver using an optical cable. When you set up the
receiver you’ll need to tell the receiver which input
you connected the player to (see
Assigning the digital
inputs
on page 81).
2 If your DVD player only has stereo analog audio
outputs, connect these to the DVD/LD AUDIO inputs
on this receiver.
Use a stereo RCA phono cable for the connection.
If your DVD player has multichannel analog outputs,
see
Connecting the multichannel analog outputs
below for how to connect it.
3 Connect a composite or S-video output on your
DVD player to the DVD/LD VIDEO or DVD/LD S-
VIDEO input on this receiver.
Use a standard RCA video cable or an S-video cable
for the connection.
See
About the video converter
on page 16 if you plan
to use a different type of video cable than you used to
connect your TV.
If your player also has a component video output, you
can connect this too. See
Using the component video
jacks
on page 24 for more on this.
