Troubleshooting
“PROTECT” and “PUSH POWER” appear
alternately.
•A strong signal is input. Turn off the power,
leave the system turned off for a while, then turn
on the power again. If “PROTECT” and “PUSH
POWER” still appear alternately, check the
speaker cords.
“DVD CLOSE!” appears.
You tried to open the cassette deck when the disc
tray is open. Press Z to close the disc tray first,
then open the cassette deck.
“TAPE CLOSE!” appears.
You tried to open the disc tray when the cassette
deck is open. Push the cassette deck to close
first, then open the disc tray.
Speakers
Sound comes from only one channel or
unbalanced left and right volume.
Check the speaker connection and speaker
placement.
The source being played back is monaural.
Adjust the balance parameters (page 15).
There is no sound from the center speaker.
Set the center speaker level to the appropriate
level.
2.1CH/MULTI is set to “2.1CH”.
There is no sound from the rear speakers.
Set the rear speakers level to the appropriate
level.
2.1CH/MULTI is set to “2.1CH”.
The software being played back has limited
sound effects. Check the volume with the test
tone.
Sound lacks bass.
Check that the speaker’s + and – terminals are
connected correctly.
DVD/VIDEO CD/CD/Super
Audio CD/MP3 Player
The disc tray does not open and “LOCKED”
appears on the front panel display.
Contact your Sony dealer or local authorized
Sony service facility.
The disc tray does not close.
Place the disc correctly in the center of the tray.
Always close the tray by pressing Z. Trying to
press the tray closed with your fingers may cause
problems with the player.
The disc does not eject.
You cannot eject the disc during CD Synchro
Recording. Press x to cancel the CD Synchro
Recording, then press Z to eject the disc.
Consult your nearest Sony dealer.
Play does not start.
Open the disc tray and check whether a disc is
loaded.
Wipe the disc clean (see page 65).
Replace the disc.
Place the disc correctly in the center of the tray.
Place the disc in the tray with the label side up.
Remove the disc and wipe away the moisture on
the disc, then leave the system turned on for a
few hours until the moisture evaporates.
Press hH to start play.
The region code on the DVD does not match the
system.
Cancel the Custom Parental Control function.
The sound skips.
Wipe the disc clean (see page 65).
Replace the disc.
Try moving the system to a place without
vibration (e.g., on top of a stable stand).
Try moving the speakers away from the system,
or placing them on separate stands.
When you listen to a track with bass sounds at
high volume, the speaker vibration may cause the
sound to skip.
