Adjusting the recording
level manually (Manual
recording)
When you record, the sound level is
adjusted automatically. If necessary, you
can set the recording level manually
during both analog and digital recording.
• This function can be set with the
recorder only.
1 While flipping the bar towards X,
press and slide REC to the right.
The recorder stands by for recording.
2 Press the jog dial.
3 Turn the dial until “RecVolume”
flashes in the display, and then press
to enter.
4 Turn the jog dial repeatedly until
“ManualREC” flashes in the display,
and then press to enter.
5 Play the source.
6 While observing the level meter in the
display, adjust the recording level by
turning the jog dial.
Set the level so that the meter
segments light up between A and B.
If the meter segments lights up to the
right of B, reduce the input level.
Each level meter shows the following.
Upper — L channel input level
Lower — R channel input level
If your source is an externally
connected component, be sure to cue
the source to the beginning of the
material to be recorded before you
start recording on the recorder.
7 Flip the bar towards X again to start
recording.
To switch back to automatic
level control
Select “Auto REC” in step 4.
Notes
• If you flip the control bar towards x during
recording operation, the recorder will revert to
automatic recording level adjustment mode
the next time you start a recording operation.
• To set the recording level manually during
synchro-recording, do the procedure below.
1 Do 1 and 2 of “Record an MD.” (step 3 of
“Recording an MD right away! (Synchro-
recording)” (page 19)) and select “SYNC
OFF” in 3.
2 Do steps 1 to 6 of manual recording
procedure. Then do the procedure of “Record
an MD.”(step 3 of“Recording an MD right
away! (Synchro-recording)” (page 19))
again.
Recording starts automatically whenever the
source sound is played.
