TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
If the DVD player does not perform properly when operated as instructed in these Operating Instructions, check the player,
consulting the following checklist.
Problem Solution Page
No power –Check if the AC power cord is properly connected. –
–Unplug the AC code once, and wait for 5-10 seconds and then plug –
it in again.
No sound or picture –Check if the TV is turned on. –
–Check the video and HDMI connection. 15, 16
–Check the AUDIO/VIDEO cable connections to the TV. 12-16
(See CONNECTIONS.)
–Check if the PURE DIRECT is set to ON. If it is the case, set it to 17
OFF.
–Check if the VIDEO OUT mode is set correctly. 12, 29
Distorted picture –Sometimes a small amount of picture distortion may appear. –
This is not a malfunction.
–Connect the DVD player directly to the TV. 15
–Check if the VIDEO OUT mode is set correctly. 12, 29
Completely distorted picture or –Connect the DVD player directly to the TV. 15
black/white picture with DVD –Make sure the disc is compatible with the DVD player. 6
No sound or distorted sound –Adjust the volume. –
–Check that the speakers are connected correctly. 13-15
–The HDMI sound is not output during PURE DIRECT or when 17, 31
AUDIO MODE is set to ANALOG.
No audio at digital output –Check the digital connections. 13, 16
–Check the audio settings. 30-32
–Digital signals cannot be output with Super Audio CDs. Use 13-15
analogue connections.
–Area/layer of Super audio CD being played (MULTI/STEREO/CD) –
does not match amplifier connections.
No image from HDMI connection –Check the HDMI connection. (Check the status of the HDMI related 16, 27
indications.)
–Check whether the connected monitor equipment or other equipment 16
supports HDCP. (This player will not output a video signal unless the
other equipment supports HDCP.)
–Connect the DVD player to the display equipment using the Audio/ 13-16,
Video cables (supplied), and check the HDMI settings. 30-32
–Check whether the output format of this player (HDMI FORMAT) 16
matches the supported input format of other connected equipment.
–Check if the PURE DIRECT is set to ON. If it is the case, set it to 17
OFF.
Picture freezes momentarily –Check the disc for fingerprints/scratches and clean with a soft cloth 34
during playback wiping from centre to edge.
–Clean the disc. 34
Disc can’t be played back –Clean the disc. 34
–Ensure the disc label is facing up. 17
–Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc. –
–Cancel the ratings control or change the control level. 32-33
–Insert a correct disc that can be played back on this player. 6
No return to start-up screen when –Reset the player by turning it off, then on again. –
disc is removed
The DVD player does not respond to –
Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the player.

the remote control –Reduce the distance to the player. –
–Replace the batteries in the remote control. 8
–Re-insert the batteries with their polarities (+/– signs) as indicated. 8
