Mains socket
The mains lead supplied with the system should be
connected to this socket. Mains power is fed to the
system through this lead.
The mains voltage and mains frequency
for this equipment are stated on the back
panel below the mains socket.
The machine must never be connected to
any other form of power supply.
The mains lead must be deployed in such a way that
there is no danger of damage to it, e. g. by furniture or
by persons treading on it.
M
LINK
The M
LINK
connection is the central control and power
supply system for all M-system machines.
It is a digital bus system used by the individual com-
ponents to exchange information (control commands,
screen information). The extremely powerful SHC
mains power supply of the PA 820 M also provides the
current required by all the other machines in the sys-
tem, and supplies it via the M
LINK
.
All the voltages required are stabilised and filtered a
second time within the individual system components,
using sophisticated electronic regulatory circuits.
The SHC (Symmetrical High Current) mains power
supply delivers currents of up to 40 Amps, and at all
times maintains more than adequate reserves of power
for all areas of signal processing and control. It offers
significantly superior characteristics compared to
individual, lower-rated power supplies.
Moving the mains transformers away from the sensitive
source devices and pre-amplifiers is the key to the
excellent signal : noise ratios which are a feature of
M-series components.
The earth systems of the analogue audio signal stages
are completely separate from those of the digital
systems, which virtually eliminates mutual interference
and other adverse effects.
LINE IN
Power amplifier input for connection to the LINE OUT
output sockets of the PT 820 M pre-amplifier.
If your system includes a DD 820 M surround decoder,
these inputs should be connected to the sockets marked
PA
on the DD 820 M (see wiring diagram in the
DD 820 M operating instructions).
SUB - LINK
Sub-woofer signal socket for surround mode (only if the
system includes a DD 820 M).
SUBW OUT
Two output sockets for connecting a sub-woofer using
Cinch cables, or a sub-woofer using an 8-pin DIN
socket ( SC
LINK
).
Note:
In addition to the audio signals for the sub-woofer, the 8-
pin DIN socket carries control signals which allow a
sub-woofer to be controlled via the SC
LINK
input.
Using the SC
LINK
interface the sub-woofer can be set to
switch on and off automatically as required, and the
internal sub-woofer filters can be adjusted accurately and
automatically to the requirements of the various
operational modes, such as Stereo, Dolby Digital, dts, etc.
