Speaker connections
A CD receiver (RCD-S81) and speaker systems (SC-S81) can be easily connected to the S-81 using the
speaker cables included with the S-81.
Note on speaker impedance
If speakers with an impedance below the specified impedance (4 Ω/ohms) are used (for example,
speakers with an impedance of 3 Ω/ohms) with the volume turned up high for long periods of time,
the temperature may rise, activating the protective circuit.
When the protection circuit is activated, the output to the speakers is cut off and the power indicator
blinks. If this happens, unplug the power supply cord, wait for the set to cool off and improve
ventilation around the unit. Also check the wiring of the input cables and the speaker cables. After
doing this, plug the power supply cord back in and turn the unit’s power back on.
If the protection circuit is activated again even though there are no problems with the wiring or the
ventilation around the unit, switch off the power and contact a DENON service center.

Changing the speaker cable
The speaker cable can be replaced with another one of your choice.
Here we describe how to connect the “+” side cable to the connector. Connect the “–” side cable in
the same way.
Insert the hexagonal wrench (included)
into the hole in the side of the “+” side
connector (arrow A).
Turn the hexagonal wrench in the
direction of arrow B to loosen the cable.
Completely remove the cable (arrow C).
Check that there are no broken pieces of core
wire remaining inside the connector.

3
Peel some sheathing off the tip of the
cable (core sire, copper colored), then
either twist the core wire or terminate it
and insert it in the direction of arrow D.
4
Turn the hexagonal wrench in the
direction of arrow E and tighten securely
so that the cable cannot come out.

•Note that inverting the polarities will change
the phase and result in unnatural sound with
no bass range.
