Playback using the Dolby Headphone mode
The S-301 is equipped with the Dolby Headphone mode, a
technology developed jointly by Dolby Laboratories and Lake
Technology for achieving 3D sound over regular headphones.
The Dolby Headphone mode is set when headphones are
connected to the S-301’s PHONES jack.
There are actually two Dolby Headphone modes creating
different sound field effects: Dolby before H/P and BYPASS
(normal stereo playback).
The Dolby Headphone mode is compatible with Dolby Digital
and DTS multi-channel sources.

Connect headphones (sold separately) to the
PHONES jack.
When headphones are plugged in, the output to the
speakers is automatically turned off and no sound is
produced from the speakers.

Press the SURROUND button to select “DOLBY
H/P”.
If nothing is done for 6 seconds from when the parameter is
displayed, the normal display reappears.

When there is no signal or when playing a 2-
channel source:
Press the SURROUND PARAMETER button,
then press the CURSOR 0 or 1 button to select
“CINEMA” or “MUSIC”.

Press the SURROUND PARAMETER button,
then press the CURSOR 0 or 1 button to set
the CINEMA EQ, NIGHT MODE and LFE
level ( page 32).

DOLBY H/P (Dolby Headphone):
Live room (room with more reverberation than reference room)
DOLBY H BYPAS (Dolby Headphone Bypass):
Stereo playback
These can be selected when playing 2-channel sources (analog,
PCM, etc.). The signals are processed by one of the following
decoders to achieve multiple channels then played in the Dolby
Headphone mode.
In the Bypass mode, these are not displayed.
CINEMA:
Dolby Pro Logic II Cinema mode
MUSIC:
Dolby Pro Logic II Music mode

Play a program source.
2 Personal memory plus
This set is equipped with a personal memorize function that
automatically memorizes the surround modes and input modes
selected for the input different sources. When the input source
is switched, the modes set for that source last time it was used
are automatically recalled.
Settings automatically stored in the memory for the individual
input functions using the Personal Memory plus function:
q Surround mode (including 2-channel decode mode and
Dolby Pro Logic

mode settings)
w Input mode selection function
The surround parameters, TONE/SDB control settings and
playback level balance for the different output channels are
memorized for each surround mode.
Press the STEREO MUSIC button.
