Troubleshooting guide
Before requesting service for this unit, check the chart below for a
possible cause of the problem you are experiencing. Some simple
checks or a minor adjustment on your part may eliminate the
problem and restore proper operation.
If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the
remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to
the directory of Authorized Service Centers (enclosed with this
unit) to locate a convenient service center, or consult your dealer
for instructions.
Problem Probable cause(s)
Sound is not heard from
the center, surround or
subwoofer speakers.
The presence setting of the speaker has
been incorrectly set to “NONE” or “NO”.
While enjoying the surround sounds
¡Set the type and presence setting of each
speaker correctly.
Hiss is heard during
stereo broadcasts, but not
during monaural ones.
Excessive noise in both
stereo and monaural
broadcasts.
“STEREO” and “TUNED”
indicators flicker.
Stereo broadcasts highly
distorted.
Modulation for the two types is different so
some noise may be heard during stereo
broadcasts.
Antenna location and direction poor.
Station is distant.
Antenna location and direction poor.
Station is distant.
Building or mountain nearby.
¡Reduce the treble.
¡Change the location and direction of the
antenna.
¡Use an outdoor antenna.
¡Use an antenna with more elements.

lead is fed to the speakers.
Interference from other appliances.

While listening to AM broadcasts

The DSP sound mode has been incorrectly
set to “STEREO”.

SURROUND and SFC
cannot be selected.

An AM broadcast station
cannot be picked up clearly.
Frequency step is set to 10 kHz. ¡Hold down [BAND] for about 3 seconds.
This changes the frequency step to 9 kHz.
