Connecting Digital Components
You can connect your audio and video equipment that have digital outputs by either digital or analog hook ups
(you don't need to do both). In order to use DVDs with Dolby Digital/DTS soundtracks you need to make either
digital audio connections or 5.1 channel analog connections (sse facing page) from your DVD player. You can
make digital conections by using either coaxial or optical cords (you don’t need to use both). The quality of these
two types of connections is the same but since some digital components only have one type of digital terminal,
it is a matter of matching like with like (for example, the coaxial out from the component to coaxial in on the
receiver). The VSX-D309 has one coaxial and one optical input for a total of two digital inputs. You can use either
for any type of digital component (DVD, CD, CD-R, etc.). The diagram below just gives examples of possible
connections.
Always make sure that the receiver is switched off and unplugged from the wall outlet before making or
changing any connections.
