(When recording from a tape , LINE IN or PHONO)
Adjust the recording level.
Before recording, adjust the recording level. Failure to do so
could cause the recorded sound to be distorted or noisy.
1. Play the source (cassette tape or external source) to be
recorded.
2. Use the REC LEVEL knob to adjust the recording level so that
the loudest sound never lights the “OVER” indicator on the
peak level meter.
< Different sources to be recorded have different volumes. In
order to record at the optimal volume for each source, it is
necessary to adjust the recording level for each source.
< You cannot adjust the recording level when recording from
CD or DIGITAL source.

Prepare the recording source.
Recording from CD
To record all the tracks/files on a CD, stop the disc first. To record
only some of the tracks/files on a CD, pause at the beginning of
the part that you want to record.
You can also record tracks in programmed order. For information
about how to set the program, see pages 25-27.
Recording from cassette tape
To record the entire tape, rewind the tape to its starting point.
To record from the middle of a tape, stop or pause at the point
from where you want to start recording.
Select the DOLBY NR (noise reduction) setting (page 10).
To record from a single tape side, set the REV MODE switch to
u, and set the playback direction using the Reverse (
g
) or
Forward (
t
) play button. Then press the TAPE Stop (H) button.
To record from both tape sides, set the REV MODE switch to j,
and set the playback direction to
t
. If you set the recording
direction to
g
, recording will be of “side B” only.
Recording from an external source
Prepare to start playback of the source device.
Example: Set the source selection of an amplifier.
Set the playback media in a connected player.
To record from a tuner, tune in a station.
