4 Network configuration
4.1 Introduction
The N8000 system controller can be connected to a TCP/IP-network via the Ethernet interface at
its rear panel (see page 13). For further information on the principles of Ethernet and TCP/IP
please see the chapter Ethernet principles on page 33 in the appendix of this document.
The N8000 comes with the following network configurations from the factory:
An IP address must be unique, it must only be allocated to one single device (host) in a network.
In case a new Ethernet network is designed for the operation of the N8000, it is recommended to
retain the subnet mask and network ID which had been set at the factory. If the N8000 is
integrated in an existing Ethernet network, the network configuration of the N8000 must be
adapted.
The preset IP address of the N8000 can be retained if and only if
only a single N8000 with factory-set configuration is connected via Ethernet and
the network ID 192.168.1 can be retained and
no other devices have the Host-ID 100.
If at least one of these three conditions is not fulfilled, the preset IP address of the N8000 has to
be changed.
Example:
The following illustration shows an example application with four NetMax N8000 in a closed
network. These are networked with a PC via a central Ethernet switch. Thus, the factory preset
