ADJUSTING DYNAMIC RANGE (DOLBY
DIGITAL)
In Dolby Digital, dynamic range between soft and loud sounds
can be adjusted to suit your desired playback volume.

Play the Dolby Digital sound.
See “PLA YING WITH SURROUND SOUND”, page 24.

Press SHIFT+MIDNIGHT repeatedly to select
desired mode.
[NIGHT MIN]
Minimum dynamic range compression. Enjoy the full dynamic
range of the sound track as experienced in a movie theater .
[NIGHT STD]
Standard dynamic range compression recommended by the
software producers when playing back at home. Default.
[NIGHT MAX]
Maximum dynamic range compression. Keeps soft sounds
and dialogs intelligible even with the overall volume turned
down. Select this mode when you have to keep the volume
low, for example, when playing back late at night.
SLEEP TIMER
This unit can be set to turn of f automatically after a specified
period of time.
Press SLEEP repeatedly to set the sleep timer
duration.
On the remote control, press SHIFT+SLEEP.
The sleep-time can be changed from 10 to 90 minutes in 10-
minute steps.
To check the time remaining until the power turns off
Press SLEEP once (press SHIFT+SLEEP on the remote control).
The remaining time is displayed for 4 seconds.
To cancel the sleep timer
Press SLEEP (press SHIFT+SLEEP on the remote control)
repeatedly to clear the sleep-timer display .
Various default settings related to the DVD player and the
TV monitor can be changed as needed or preferred.
OVERVIEW OF THE SETUP MENU
There are 4 major menu items that can be adjusted. Their function
are as follows:
1RATING (page 30)
Sets the rating limit of DVDs allowed to play back on this unit
when playing discs with restriction level encoding.
With discs that include scenes with excessive violence, for
example, this setting can be used either to automatically cut
such scenes or to disable playback altogether , depending on
the disc.
2PASSWORD (page 30)
The password needs to be entered not to prevent the playback
of the disc whose rating level is higher than the unit’ s setting.
The password can be changed to your taste.
When the password is required, even if you input the wrong
password, the password cannot be cleared. Be careful not to
input the wrong password. If you fail in inputting password,
reinsert the disc and then repeat the procedure.
3 TV DISPLAY (page 31)
Sets the aspect ratio of the video signal sent to your connected
TV set. The preference setting for the 4:3 or 16:9
representation of wide format software is only ef fective when
playing a disc of fering such a choice.
4 TV TYPE (page 31)
Sets “TV TYPE” according to the color system of the connected
TV.
The “TV DISPLAY” setting and the “TV TYPE” setting
need to be set specifically to match your configuration of
connected equipment.
The default “TV DISPLA Y” setting has to be changed if
you are connecting to a 16:9 (wide) ratio TV set.
Changing the default “TV TYPE” may be needed depending
on your TV type.
Any other setting can be changed or kept as is, according
to your preferences.
