High Crossover Volume Trim OnthethirdscreenofWisdomSetupCong.exe,thelefttwo-thirdsofthescreen
isdevotedtoadjustingforthepotentialdifferenceinoveralllevelbetweenthe
wooferandplanarmagneticsectionsofthesystem,whiletherightsidecon-
cernsitselfwithroomcorrection.Wediscusstheleftsiderst.
Therearetworeasonswhythewoofersandtheplanarmagneticsectionsofthe
speakersmightnotmatchoneanotherinvolume.
Firstofall,theplanarsectionstendtobemoresensitivethanthewoofersec-
tions,thatis,theyplaymoreloudlyforthesameamountofpower.Thisisa
functionofbothourunusuallysensitiveplanarmagneticdriversandthesmall
enclosurevolumesbehindthewoofers.Themagnitudeofthisdifferencevaries
amongthedifferentmodels,andwithvaryingroomplacement.
Thesecondreasonforadifferenceinoveralllevelbetweenupperandlow
frequencysectionsofthespeakersisthattheamplierchosentodrivethepla-
narsmayormaynothavethesameinputsensitivityastheoneusedtodrive
thewoofers.Ofcourse,wehavenocontroloverwhatampliersareselected
fortheplanars.(WisdomAudioampliersarerecommendedforusewiththe
woofersections.)
Determining the trim value Thebestsolutionforbothsituationsisthesame:measuretheoutputlevelof
each“half”ofeachspeakerinturn,usingpinknoiseandadBSPLmeter.Then
adjusttheplanarmagneticsideofthespeakerupordownasneededtomatch
theoutputofthewoofersection.Thisadjustmentcanbemadeontheleftside
oftheRoomCalibrationwindow,inthearealabeled“HighCrossoverVolume
Trim.”(Seebelow.Notethatyouwillseefewertrimsifyouareusingfewerthan
sevenmainchannels.)
