Bass + Treble function
Explanation:
The PT 820 M features active tone controls. They are
designed to compensate for adverse effects on
reproduction quality caused by unfavourable loud-
speaker locations or room influences.
These controls are deliberately designed to affect only
low frequencies below 300 Hz ('BASS' function) and high
frequencies above 4000 Hz ('TREBLE' function), in order
to avoid unwanted coloration in the mid-range.
Operation:
To change the tone settings press the remote control
buttons in the sequence stated above. The current
setting can be changed using the
/
buttons.
The screen shows the current bass and treble settings,
e. g.:
'

'.
Diese Einstellung kann im Bereich von
- 6 dB (less bass / treble)
to
+ 6 dB (more bass / treble)
using the
or
button.
Any change takes effect immediately.
Note:
If you have switched off the tone controls ('FLAT'), they
are automatically activated if you change the bass /
treble settings, and the
symbol lights!
Tone function
Explanation:
The shortest possible signal paths inside the system are
exploited when the system is set to FLAT mode, as all
sub-assemblies which are not absolutely essential (e. g.
the tone controls) are by-passed using high-quality gold-
contact relays. The machine’s frequency response and
phase are absolutely linear in this mode. The FLAT setting
therefore provides the most faithful reproduction and the
best possible sound. It should always be selected if the
tone controls are at the zero setting in any case.
Operation:
To change the tone setting press the remote control
buttons in the sequence stated above. The current
setting can be changed using the
/
buttons.
The screen shows the current setting, e. g.:
'

If the tone controls are switched off ('

are automatically activated if you change the bass /

Loudness function
Explanation:
The PT 820 M features a volume-dependent tone adjust-
ment (LOUDNESS) which compensates for the varying
frequency-dependent sensitivity of the ear at very low
volume, caused by the physiology of the hearing system.
The LOUDNESS circuit increases both bass and treble
slightly at low volume, to compensate for the human
ear’s reduced sensitivity for these frequencies at low
levels. The net effect is that the sound quality appears to
remain constant at all volume levels.
Operation:
To change the Loudness setting press the remote control
buttons in the sequence stated above. The current
setting can be changed using the
/
buttons.
The screen displays the current Loudness setting, e. g.:
'

Any change takes effect immediately.
If Loudness is active ('
