Using the Listening Modes
Mono
Use this mode when watching an old movie with a mono
soundtrack, or use it to separately reproduce soundtracks
in two different languages recorded in the left and right
channels of some movies. It is also suitable for DVDs or
other sources containing multiplexed audio.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
Multichannel
This mode is for use with PCM multichannel sources.
The audio from the input source is output as-is, without
surround sound processing.
r Input source: 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
Orchestra
Suitable for classical or operatic music, This mode
emphasizes the surround channels in order to widen the
stereo image, and simulates the natural reverberation of a
large hall.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
r Surround speakers need to be installed.
Pure Audio (European, Australian and Asian
models)
This mode reproduces the original sound accurately. Since
the audio from the input source is output without surround
sound processing and the display and video circuitry are
turned off, possible noise sources are minimized for a
realistic audio reproduction.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
r This mode cannot be selected when Zone 2/Zone 3
is active. Activating Zone 2/Zone 3 when this mode is
selected, automatically switches the listening mode to
Direct.
Stereo
In this mode, sound is output from the front left and right
speakers/subwoofer.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
Studio-Mix
Suitable for rock or pop music, Listening to music in this
mode creates a lively sound field with a powerful acoustic
image, like being at a club or rock concert.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
r Surround speakers need to be installed.
T-D
In this mode, you can enjoy a virtual playback of
multichannel surround sound even with only two or three
speakers. This works by controlling how sounds reach the
listener’s left and right ears.
r Input source: MONO, STEREO, 5.1 ch, 7.1 ch
r Good results may not be possible if there is too much
reverb, so we recommend that you use this mode in an
environment with little or no natural reverb.
THX
Founded by George Lucas, THX develops stringent
standards that ensure movies are reproduced in movie
theaters and home theaters just as the director intended.
THX Modes carefully optimize the tonal and spatial
characteristics of the soundtrack for reproduction in
the home-theater environment. They can be used with
2-channel matrixed and multichannel sources. Surround
back speaker output depends on the source material and
the selected listening mode.
r The THX mode can finely adjust the acoustic and
spatial characteristics of the soundtrack for the best
reproduction of home theater sound. It will work on 2 ch
source and multichannel source. Surround back sound
will differ depending on the source and selected listening
mode.
