SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
LINE REPLACEMENT
Pre--wound spools of fer the most convenient
method for replacing line and ensuring opti-
mum performance.
S Replacement spools are co lor--coded to en-
sure use of the corre ct spool with your unit.
Be su re to use the same co lor spool as the
existing spool.
NOTE: Always clear dirt and debris from
cutting head components when performing
any type of maintenance.
S Hold spool and unscrew cap by turning in the
direct ion shown on top of the cap.
S Remove line guide ring and spool.
NOTE:When removing and/or installingspool,
ensure dust cup re mains insta lled over shaft .
Use a pre--wound spool or refill spool with
line. If usingapre--woundspool,removetape
strip from line and spool.
REFILLING THE SPOOL WITH LINE
WARNING: Use only 0 .080” (2 mm)
diameter rou nd line . Other sizes and sh apes
of line will not advanceprope rly and will re sult in
improper cutt ing head fu nctionor can cause se-
rious injury. Do not use other materials such as
wire, string, rope , etc. Wire can break of f during
cutt ing and become a dangerous missile that
can cause serious injury.
1. Cut a length of 25 feet of 0.080” (2 mm) di-
ameter round WEED EATER brand line.

2. Inse rt one end of line into center cavity of
empty sp ool. Ensure line will fee d into
spool in the dire ction shown on the spool
(counterclockwise ).
3. Continuefeeding line into spool, leaving 4 --
6 inches (10 -- 15cm)unwound from center
of spool.
INSTALLING SPOOL WITH LINE
1. Inst all replace ment spool.
2. Thread line through line guide ring.

3. Rest guide ring o n spool and place line
throughslot. Allowlinetoextend4--6inch-
es (10 -- 15 cm) from center of sp ool.
4. Ensu re line remains i n slot while screwing
cap on totheshaf t. Only t ightencap ha nd
tight!
CARBURETOR IDLE SPEED
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Keep others away when
making idle speed adjustments. The trimmer
head will be spinning during this procedure.
Wear your protective eq uipmentand o bserve
all sa fety precautions.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments maybenecessary ifyou
notice any of the following conditions:
S Engine will not idl e when t he throttle i s re-
leased .
Make adjustments with the unit support edso
the cutt ing attachment is off the ground and
will not make contact with any object. Hold
theunit byhand whilerunningandmakingad-
justments. Keep all parts of your body away
from the cutting attachment and muffler.
To adjust idle speed:
Allow enginetoidle. Adjustspeeduntilengine
runs without stalling (idle speed too slow).
S Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in-
creaseenginesp eedif enginestallsordies.
S Turn idle speed screw counterclockwiseto
decrease engine speed.
