USING YOUR UNIT

S Withoutoperatorbendingover,thebladeor
trimmer head is near and parallel to the
groundandeasilycontactsmaterial tobe
cut.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR
USE WITH TRIMMER HEAD
Beforetrimming,bringenginetoaspeedsuffi-
cient to cut material to be trimmed.
Donotrunengineatahigherspeedthanneces-
sary.Thecuttinglinewillcutefficientlywhenthe
engineisrunatlessthanfullthrottle.Atlower
speeds,thereislessenginenoiseandvibration.
Thecuttinglinewilllastlongerandwillbeless
likely to weldonto the spool.
Iftrimmerheaddoesnotturnwhentheengineis
inoperation,makesurethetube isproperly
seated in engine shroud.
Alwaysreleasethethrottletriggerandallow
the engine to return to idle speed whennot
cutting.
To stop engine:
S Move the switch to STOP.
S If engine does not stop, move choke to
the FULL CHOKE position.
ADVANCING THE TRIMMER LINE
Trimmerlinewilladvanceapproximately2in.(5
cm)eachtimethebottomofthetrimmerheadis
tappedonthegroundwiththeenginerunningat
full throttle.
Themostefficientlinelengthisthemaximum
length allowed by line limiter.
Alwayskeeptheshieldinplacewhenthetool
is being operated.
To Advance Line:
S Operate the engine at full throttle.
S Holdthetrimmerheadparalleltoandabove
the grassy area.
S Tap bottom of trimmer headlightly onthe
groundonetime.Approximately2in.(5cm)
of line will be advanced with each tap. A
blade on the shield will cut the line to the
correct length.
Alwaystapthetrimmerheadonagrassyarea.
Tappingonsurfacessuchasconcreteoras-
phaltcancauseexcessiveweartothetrimmer
head.
Iflineisworndownto2in.(5cm)orless,more
thanonetapwillberequiredtoobtainthemost
efficient line length.
WARNING:Useonly.080”(2mm)diame-
ter line. Other sizes of linewill notadvance
properlyandcancauseseriousinjury.Donot
useothermaterialssuchaswire,string,rope,
etc.Wirecanbreakoffduringcuttingandbe-
comeadangerousmissilethatcancausese-
rious injury.

S BladeThrustisareactionthatonlyoccurs
whenusingabladedunit.Thisreactioncan
causeseriousinjurysuchasamputation.
Carefullystudythissection.Itisimportantthat
youunderstandwhatcausesbladethrust,
howyoucanreducethechanceofitsoccur-
ring,andhowyoucanremainincontrolofunit
if blade thrust occurs.
S WHATCAUSESBLADETHRUST--Blade
Thrustcanoccurwhenthespinningblade
contactsanobjectthatitdoesnotcut.This
contactcausesthebladetostopforaninstant
andthensuddenlymoveor“thrustaway
fromtheobjectthatwashit.Thethrusting”re-
actioncanbeviolentenoughtocausetheop-
eratortobepropelledinanydirectionandlose
controloftheunit.Theuncontrolledunitcan
causeseriousinjuryifthebladecontactsthe
operator or others.
S WHEN BLADE THRUST OCCURS --
Blade thrust can occurwithout warningif
the blade snags, stalls, or binds. This is
morelikelytooccurinareaswhereitisdiffi-
culttoseethematerialbeingcut.Byusing
theunitproperly, theoccurrence ofblade
thrustwillbereducedandtheoperatorwill
be less likely to lose control.
S Cutonlygrass,weeds,andwoodybrushup
to1/2inchindiameterwiththeweedblade.
Donotletthebladecontactmaterialitcan-
not cut such as stumps, rocks, fences,
metal,etc.,orclustersofhard,woodybrush
having a diameter greater than 1/2 inch.
