NOTE: Make sure all parts are properly

S Alignholeinthedustcupwiththeholeinthe
sideofthegearboxbyrotatingthedustcup.
S Insert a small screwdriver into aligned
holes.Thiswillkeeptheshaftfromturning
while tightening trimmer head.

S While holding thescrewdriver inposition,
thread trimmer head onto theshaft inthe
directionshownonthedecal.Tightenuntil
secure.
NOTE:Theretainingwashermustbeposi-
tionedwiththeraisedsectionfacingtowardthe
gearbox.

NOTE:Ifyourunithasbeenassembledfor
trimmerheaduse,refertothesectionATTACH-
INGTHEPLASTICSHIELDANDTRIMMER
HEADandreversethestepsto removethe
plastic shield and trimmer head beforeyou
mountthemetalshieldandblade.Storethese
partsforfutureuse.Neverusethetrimmerhead
with the metal blade installed.
ASSEMBLY OF THE METAL SHIELD
DANGER:Themetalshieldmustbeprop-
erly installed on the tool anytime the tool is
used with the blade. The forwardtop ofthe
metalshieldhelpstoreducetheoccurrence
ofbladethrustwhichcancauseseriousinjury
such as amputation to the operator or by-
standers. Failure to install the shield in the
positionshowncanresultinseriousinjuryto
theoperator.Thelengthoftheshieldmustbe
alignedwiththelengthofthetube.Theblade
is sharp and can cut you. Be sure to wear
gloves while working with blades.
S If your unit has a plastic cover over the
threadsontheshaft,removethecovering
to expose the threads.
S Turnunitover(threadsonshaftfacingup),
place the metal shield over the gearbox,
and align the screw holes.

S Insertthe4mountingscrews throughthe
bottomoftheshield.Threadthem intothe
gearbox.Tightenevenlyandsecurelywith
one of the hex wrenches provided.

WARNING:Donotuseanyblades,orfas-
teninghardwareotherthanthewashersand
nuts illustrated in the following illustrations.
ThesepartsmustbeprovidedbyWeedEater,
andinstalledasshownbelow.Failuretouse
properpartscancausethebladetoflyoffand
seriously hurt you or others.
NOTE:Thedustcupandretainingwasherare
locatedonthegearboxandnotinthepartsbag.
S Removetheretainerwasherfromthegear-
box,andleavethedustcuponthegearbox.
NOTE:Itmaybenecessarytoremovea
plastic protective covering from the
threadedshaftbeforeremovingtheretain-
ing washer.

S Installthebladeoverthethreadedshaftex-
tendingfromthegearboxbetweenthedust
cup andthe retainingwasher. Makesure
the raised part of the retaining washer is
facingthegearbox,andtheraisedareafits
into the hole in the center of the blade.
