InsertingtheBatteries
Description
TheSK1013-6isa battery-poweredRFtransmitterusedfor wirelessaudio
transmissionincombinationwithanRFreceiver,ideallywiththeEK1013-6.
Oneofthepossibleapplicationsfor theSK1013-6isasanaidfor people
withhearingproblemsinallkindsofschoolsanduniversities.Equippedwith
aSennheiserMikroportsystemconsistingoftheSK1013-6andthe
EK1013-6theusernoIongerneedsto strainto hearthevoiceofthe
speaker,distortedanddiminishedbyenvironmentalsoundsandthe
dlstancebetweenlistenerandpodium;instead,thewordsspokenarerecei-
veddirectly,eliminatingthefactorsoftheacousticsof theroomandof
distanceto thespeaker.Thebestwayof explaininghowthesystemworks
iswiththehelpofanexample:
Thespeaker(e.g.ateacher)wearsthetransmitter,whichisequippedwith
a microphone.Thelistener,achildor anadultwithhearingproblems,
wearstheEK1013-6receiver.Dependingonthelevelofthe hearinghandi-
captheoutputofthereceivercanbeconnectedeitherto apairof head-
phonesorto thelistener'sownhearingaid.TheEK1013-6receivesthesig-
nalandamplifiesit sothatthelistenercanhearit loudlyandclearly.Even
ifthelistenerissittingintheverybackrowof a schoolauditoriumwith
pooracousticsheor shecanheartheteacherasclearlyasif hewere
standingnextto themandspeakingto themdirectly.
Hereisalittleinformationaboutthetechnologyofthistransmitter:
TheSK1013-6isanarrowbandtransmitterandispresetto a specific
frequencyintherangebetween30 and45 MHz.Thetransmitter's8-pin
inputsocketcanbeusedto connectmicrophones,for instancetheMKE
4012orMKE2012plug-inelectretmicrophones,andaudlosignalsfrom
tapedecksorcassetterecorderscanbeinputviathe3.5mmphono
socket.Thebuilt-in"HiDyn"compandersystemensuresextremelyhigh
transmissionquality.
TheSK1013-6ispoweredbythreebatteries,whichcanbeeitherrechar-
geableor non-rechargeable.Twochargingcontactsarelocatedontheside
oftheunitwhenrechargeablebatteriesarebeingusedtheycanbe
rechargedbyconnectingtheSZL1011-2chargingunittothesecontacts.
Thestandardequipmentprovidedwiththetransmitterconsistsofa neck
strapandtheGZK1011carryingclip

Thetransmittercanbeoperatedeitherwithalkali-manganesedrybatteries
(lECLR6)or withrechargeableNiCdbatteries(1.2V/500 mAhsinter
accumulators).Inthecaseofdrybatterieswestronglyadvisethatyouuse
thealkali-manganesetype,astheperformanceofthetransmittercannotbe
guaranteedwhenothertypesof dry batteriesareused.Whenthetrans-
mitterisusedfrequently,however,it ismoreeconomicalto userechar-
geableNiCdbatteries.ThesebatteriescanberechargedwiththeSZL1011-2
chargingunit.ForthispurposetheSK1013-6isfittedwithtwocontacts6
onthesideof itshousingwhichmakeitpossibleto chargethebatteries
withoutremovingthemfromtheunit.Dependingonthetypesofbatteries
usedthetransmittercanbeoperatedfordifferentlenghtsoftimebefore
changingorrechargingthebatteries:
RechargeableNiCdbatteries:approx.10 hours
Alkali-manganesebatteries: approx.30 hours
PleaseNotewhenUsingRechargeableBatteries:
1.Switchthetransmitteroff beforecharging.
2. Replacethetransmitterinthechargingunitaftereachuse.Thismakes
surethatthebatteriesarealwaysfullycharged.
