Definingtunnelstoyourdevice
SettingupGeneric RoutingEncapsulation(GRE)tunnels
Tunnelingallowstheuseofapublicnetworktoconveydataonbehalfoftworemoteprivatenetworks.Itis
alsoawaytotransformdataframestoallowthemtopassnetworkswithincompatibleaddressspacesoreven
incompatibleprotocols.
GenericRoutingEncapsulation(GRE)isatunnelingmechanismthatusesIPasthetrans
portprotocolandcan
beusedforcarryingmanydifferentpassengerprotocols.Thetunnelsbehaveasvirtualpoint‐to‐pointlinks
thathavetwoendpointsidentifiedbythetunnelsourceandtunneldestinationaddressesateachendpoint.
ConfiguringaGREtunnelinvolvescreatingatunnelinterface,whichisalogicalinterface,thenconfi
guringthe
tunnelendpointsforthetunnelinterface.
TosetupGREtunnels:
1. FromTunnels,selectGRETunnels.TheTunnels:GRETunnelspaneopens.
2. FromtheTunnels:GRETunnelspane,clickAddTunnel.
Aseriesofwizardpanelshelpsyouconfiguretheconnection.
3. IntheTu
nnelNamefield,enteranameforthenewtunnel.
4. Inthedescriptionarea,typeadescriptionthathelpsyoufurtheridentifythetunnel.ClickNext.
5. Inthenextwizardpane:
IntheRemoteWANIPfield,typetheIPaddressofthegatewaytowhichyouwanttoconnect.
(Optional)FromtheSavedNetworkdrop‐downlist,selectthenetworkthatistoberoutedthrough
thetunnel.Toselectalocalinterface:Selectthelocalinterfaceonwhichthetunnelisbeingcreated.
Eventually,thepacketsdestinedforthistunnelwillberoutedthroughit
Ifyouarenotusingasavednetwork,intheNetworkRoutefield,typetheIPaddressofthenetwork
thatisroutedthroughthetunnel.
Ifyouarenotusingasavednetwork,intheNetworkMaskfield,typethemaskofthenetwork.
ClickAddRoute.ThedefinedGREtunnelconfigurationisaddedandappearsintheNetworkRoutes
list.
