Connecting the A-1VL
Read the manuals supplied with your components.
Dont connect the power cord until youve completed
all audio and video connctions.
RCA/Phono Connection Color Coding
RCA/Phono connections are usually color coded: red
and white. Use red plugs to connect right-channel audio
inputs and outputs (typically labeled R).
Use white plugs to connect left-channel audio inputs
and outputs (typically labeled L). And use yellow
plugs to connect composite video inputs and outputs.
Push plugs in all the way to
make good connections (loose
connections can cause noise or
malfunctions).
To prevent interference, keep
audio and video cables away
from power cords and speaker
cables.
Connecting Your Speakers
Connect the right channel speaker to the RIGHT
speaker connector on the A-1VL, and the left channel
speaker to the LEFT speaker connecter.
Connect the + connector on each speaker to the +
connectors on the A-1VL, and connect the “–” connec-
tor on each speaker to the “–” connectors on the A-1VL.
Be sure to connect the positive and negative cables for
the speakers properly. If they are mixed up, the left and
right signals will be reversed and the audio will sound
unnatural.
Caution:
Do not connect speakers having impedance values of
4 ohms or lower.
Do not connect more than one speaker cord to indi-
vidual speaker terminals. Connecting more than one
speaker cord may cause failure.
Unnecessarily long, or very thin speaker cables may
affect the sound quality and should be avoided.
Be careful not to short the positive
and negative wires. Doing so may
damage the A-1VL.
1
Strip away approx. 5/8 inch
(15 mm) of insulation from the
ends of the speaker cables, and
twist the bare wires tightly, as
shown.
2
Twist the wire ends tightly together.
3
Unscrew the speaker terminal.
4
Fully insert the bare wires.
5
Screw the terminal tight.
Changing the Speaker
Impedance Value Setting
The A-1VL allows you to set the speaker impedance
values according to the speakers you use, adjusting the
optimum frequency characteristics against speaker
loads.
We recommend you set the SPEAKER IMPEDANCE
SELECTOR setting to 8 OHMS MIN./SPEAKER
for speakers having impedance of 8 ohms or higher.
Likewise, you may want to set the setting to 4 OHMS
MIN./SPEAKER for speakers having impedance of
4 ohms or higher.
