need a professional advice on the Samsung Home Theater System (Flat Panel 52” LCD HDTV 1080p, Digital Surround AV Receiver System HT-AS720S, Blu-Ray Disc Player BD-P1400) I bought from BestBuy in Toronto, Canada recently. I live in the Philippines. I think I am not getting my money’s worth until I get satisfaction on the quality of audio the system is expected to deliver. I would like to think that I haven’t set up the system right. This documentation is for the purpose of validating with Samsung technical guys if the set up was not proper. (I must say the pieces of technology appliances are NOT very user-friendly.) INDICATIONS 1. When playing the Blu-Ray Disc Player, the 2 rear speakers and the sub-woofer are not working. I may have made a mistake in setting up because I did not notice Page 24 of the Instruction Manual on the subject of Setting HDMI AUDIO which says: Before using! • Press the INPUT MODE button to select HDMI1 or HDMI2. • If you select Digital (Optical, Coaxial)or Analog, the HDMI audio setting will be deactivated. I am not sure but I may have selected Digital or Analog (I have not seen HDMI1 or HDMI2 while setting up), but there should be a series of commands to get it back to HDMI. I am not also sure if the only way to get HDMI AUDIO is through a HDMI Cable, which was not supplied and which I haven’t bought and therefore haven’t installed. When testing the speakers automatically (TEST-T AUTO) or manually (TEST-T MANU), all installed speakers are functioning. I would like to know the recommended settings for the following (the Instruction Manual is vague on these): • DIGITAL IN (the INPUT MODE button seem not to be working after the AVR has been initially set up. • HDMI AUDIO (message did not appear while setting up. Is the HDMI cable necessary?) • NEO:6 MODE • EX/ES MODE (How is that? My AVR is 7.1 and my Blue-Ray Disc Player is 5.1. Does it matter?) • SET UP MODE (The other buttons seem not working anymore. I can’t choose EFFECTS anymore.) 2. When inputting TV signal to the AVR, the 7.1 doesn’t work. Is this correct? Or am I just missing something?

0 i have the same system, other then the blue ray. im using my older dvd player for now............. setting this system up was a pain in the ass. for about 2 hours nothing worked at all. no sound anywhere, then i couldnt get the tv to work with regular sound. nothing worked... i called a freind over and we took a closer look.. i dont know what wires we switched around but i have it set up like this for now till i take a look again.. we have a hdmi cable running from our comcast hd cable box to the tv in hdmi 1.......... hdmi2 we have going from the samsung reciever to the tvs hdmi2 those two cables cost 180.00. they were supposed to take care of all othr wiring according to the salesmen... then we have 2 sets of rcas running to the audio ins and outs from the tv/dvd/and cable box. i want to go back and see if some of these are even needed. the tv needs to me set on hdmi 1 to watch tv while the reciver needs to be set on sat analog....... now why it works on analog and not hdmi is beyond me..... to watch a dvd tv needs to be set on av2 and the recierver set to dvd phx11 or whatever it is. its a pain in the ass. the sound is good crisp clear and loud. deep bass.. i need to see if i have ti right, but it gives u the options to balance the levels of voulume coming from the speakers to sound like u want it. i noticed the tv is really slow to switch channels and sometimes the hd channels come in all chopped up. the speakers come with junk wires and i still want to get thicker wires. prolly monster wires like the rest of this set up. all in all tv looks good with the hd channels. reg channels look kinda shitty but thats expected. surround sound is confusing as hell sounds good. fm didnt work with the cheasy antenna they give u, so i still need to get a better antenna.
