What is the black ribbon in the battery compartmen...

What is the black ribbon in the battery compartment for? Is it a saftey feature to be removed during setup? If so, how does one remove it? Thank you for your help. Memorex Portable CD Player MD6451

0 The ribbon should not be removed. Keep it under the batteries when they are installed and use the end of it to facilitate easy battery removal.
