Trying to connect the Maxell Maxsound ssb-1 soundb...

Trying to connect the Maxell Maxsound ssb-1 soundbar to my tv. I have done all the connections but only am hearing static from the speaker. Do I have to change a setting on the TV in order for this to work with the sound from the tv?
