Question About Kenwood Stereo System None

I just bought a new Samsung LN52A550 Flat screen and want to know how to get the best sound out of my VR-3080. I also bought a PlayStation3 for playing Blu-Ray movies. I've connected the PS3 to the TV with an HDMI cable and also connected a Optical Digital Cable to my VR-3080. I don't seem to get any bass? It shows that I am connected with Dolby Digital however. If I switch to stereo I get bass, any suggestions??? Thank you.
