i have a 52" sony bravia TV and the JVC thd-70 hom...

i have a 52" sony bravia TV and the JVC thd-70 home theater system. i cant get the TV to come through the surround sound. i bought an HDMI cable and tried to hook it up that way but no luck. what am i doing wrong?
