power but no readout; is it dead?

4 I just purchased this Denon receiver from an auction on Ebay. It appears to be in very good condition... However, after plugging it in and turning it on, the front panel lights up and I can navigate throught he functions that appear to be working. The tuner works scanning through the stations but fails to lock on to any stations. The receiver itself does not seem to be powered on and I cannot get any sound to come through. I'm wondering if I'm missing a second power cord? The only cord that it came with is the main power cord out of the back of the unit. Any suggestions please...
