This is the single-most complicated receiver I have ever had. The manual is incomplete at best with no help explaining what some of the menu choices do or don't do when activated, deactivated, or one of several mode options are selected. I have rechecked all source input connections and speaker connections, but no sound comes out of the speakers regardless of the source selected (CD player, DVD, TV). The menu setup flow chart is virtually impossible to follow on the receiver itself. The package was missing the microphone for "auto setup" so while I wait for resolution on that issue, I'm trying to follow the "manual setup" and just getting frustrated. I have a 4 year college degree and can program computers, solve a Rubik's cube, and tie my shoes without the aid of velcro... but this thing has got me absolutely arguing with myself. B*st B*y wants to charge me $200 to come to my house and "install" the system. They don't seem to understand that I've done the installation; they don't need to hook up speakers, build a cabinet, plug in all the components and speakers. Maybe that would justify (barely) that amount of scratch. I'm looking for product support, which should be no charge. Denon USA does not have on-line support; only snail mail or telephone (business week & times). So, I'm hoping there is someone with experience who might be able to help. I would really appreciate it.

0 Follow up: As it turns out, the vast majority of my frustration was due to a bad amp right out of the box! After two trips to the store where the purchase was made, and getting hands-on demos of the menu set up (and seeing that I was actually doing it all correctly) I returned the unit on trip number 3 to find it was bad. They made an exchange - no hassles whatsoever. I got the replacement home, plugged all my other components back in, and with my extensive short-term schooling on the set-up process... I had it working in about 20 minutes. I still maintain the menu system is not straight forward, and the manual is not much more help. But if you plug along slowly (and I recommend you read the manual at least once all the way though before attempting the set up) it works exactly as it did in the store's demo room. If you can surmount that right-of-passage it is well worth the effort because the legendary audio Denon is known for really shines through! It lays my old receiver to waste; not even a fair fight. It is a 7.1 channel, but I currently only have speakers for 5.1. No matter as it sounds PERFECT! I have Klipsch front speakers with a center and rear surround speakers as NHT "Zeros" and a NHT powered 12" subwoofer. They all sound so much better, so much cleaner, clearer and more defined. From low volume settings to loud and everywhere in between. As my sub has its own dedicated amp, I do not find this Denon model to lack oomph in the lows as some other reviewers have stated on other sites. When you get deep enough into the menu set up, you'll find you can set custom EQ ranges for all speakers, either seperately as individuals, or in related groups, or all together at once. You can also adjust volume emphasis between front/center/surround to get the perfect blend of sound quality and volume for your environment. If anyone from Denon is reading this, I love this unit; just find a way to make the menu set-up easier or at least more easily understood. For what others might call an enrty level Denon, I'd call it more of a mid-level unit. And overall I rate it 9 out of 10. My money was well spent.
