Fitted new batteries 2days ago ( Alkaline) to Bush...

Fitted new batteries 2days ago ( Alkaline) to Bush model 1414/4798 (SG002D) and they are now exhausted? after a couple of days. When switched off just goes to standby mode? is there a an off switch somewhere? I bought it secondhand so have no instructions.Anyone any ideas.
