The PROTECT error usually means that your speaker outputs are shorted or overloaded. This could mean damaged speakers (unlikely) or frayed cables. Otherwise the amplifier's output stage is damaged internally.

I recently just bought the kenwood ddx512 offl the Internet and when I installed it it keeps on popping up with a code that's 4 digits long...I have the remote for it too I just need to know how i can get rid of the code so I can actually listen to music...and I called kenwood and they didn't help me at all!!

stereo keeps blowing fuse and have interferance when volume is up sounds like static in speakersand cant turn volume past 17 or static gets worse also need manual so i can set everything once it works right

and i use this radio 2 years and since the last usb stick i brougth to plug, the radio first starts to turning of the face plate ligths and finily the ligths stops defetly to work can any buddy help me how to do!!???????

This tip saved me after too many minutes struggling with the unit. I was confused by the way it was presented in the manual, but I finally figured it out after reading "PRESS AND HOLD THE VOLUME KNOB IN THE CENTER." I think the source of my confusion was that the manual skipped that step in a number of places describing the menu system, so I couldn't figure it out. Thank you so much, previous poster!
