CS-525 CD Receiver System
Amplification Design Built Around the Onkyo Sound
Due to their obvious size limitations, mini audio systems present various
challenges to amplification design. The concept behind the CS-525 was to
design a compact system with audio quality as the key consideration. Therefore,
Onkyo’s engineers incorporated the same technology used in our renowned
full-sized amplifiers and receivers:Wide Range Amplifier Technology.WRAT gives
the CS-525 three distinct advantages:1) A wider frequency response compared
to similar mini audio systems;2) Reduced amplifier distortion at high volume;
and 3) Better control of current and electrical/mechanical kick-back from
speakers. This enables the CS-525 to deliver audio of surprisingly high quality
from such a compact component.
Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) and Optimum Gain
Volume Circuitry to Maintain Clean Audio Signals
The CS-525 uses VLSC to produce a noise-free analog signal from digital music
sources. This technology is effective in removing pulse noise during the digital-to-
analog conversion process, thereby maintaining the purity of the signal. Employed
in Onkyo’s A/V receivers and playback components,VLSC ensures you get the
best possible audio from CDs and compressed formats such as MP3.
Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry is also used to prevent noise from adversely
affecting the audio signal. This circuitry makes adjustments to the gain, thereby
reducing attenuation by 50%,so the signal never comes close to the noise floor.
By contrast, in conventional volume attenuation methods (where no gain
adjustment is made),the signal drops close to the noise floor at low volumes.
This taints the signal with noise that is noticeable when the signal is amplified.
Front Panel USB Interface for Mass Storage Devices (Such as
Flash Drives and Portable Audio Players)
With the CS-525’s front-panel port for a USB mass storage device, you can
access MP3 and WMA files from USB flash drives (e.g. memory sticks) or from
portable audio players that support the USB Mass Storage Class Standard.
Once your device is connected, you can use the CS-525’s remote control to
play back the music files in the order in which they are organized. The CS-525’s
USB port makes it easy to relay digital files from your computer for playback, or
to use your MP3 player as a music source.
The Option of iPod Playback Through RI Dock for the iPod*
The Remote Interactive (RI) system enables Onkyo owners to
integrate compatible components for operation via a single remote
control. It also enables you to integrate the iPod with the CS-525
through Onkyo’s optional RI Dock for the iPod.Simply connect
the dock to the CD receiver, then place your iPod in the dock for
control with the CS-525’s remote. The RI Dock has been hailed as
offering a “heftier and more detailed” sound than can be experienced with an
RCA stereo cable.

Gloss-Finished Speakers With Select Performance-Enhancing
Features
The accompanying D-525 two-way, bass-reflex speakers have a gloss finish that
will impress in any environment.Musically, they incorporate a range of Onkyo
speaker developments designed to match the CR-525.For example, the woofer
cones are made from Onkyo’s A-OMF Monocoque—a diaphragm fiber
designed to support piston motion range. Also,to deliver high frequency sounds
with finesse, the speakers include a ring-drive tweeter that contributes to the
restraint of low-frequency interference from inside the speaker. Finally,a duct—
called the Aero Acoustic Drive—is included to mitigate interference between
high and low frequencies.
Award-Winning Compact Audio Design and Performance with USB
Connectivity
Building on the success of Onkyo’s 2007 award-winning compact audio system, the CS-525 harnesses the same audio design for an
audio performance that has been compared to that of quality separate components. Specifically, at the playback stage, you have Vector
Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) working to remove noise from the audio signal during the conversion process. And at the amplification
stage,Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) provides the foundation for a listening experience that’s truly musical. Onkyo compact
systems are all about continuous improvement. So you’ll find a USB port for connecting to mass storage devices (such as MP3 players)
and a new-look,gloss finish that earns the CS-525 some serious style credentials.
