  same thing happened last night to us. Kids turned on Rock band and it ws playing the radio fine and then it stopped and the screen just went to a whole bunch of squares..now nothing. warranty just expired..figures

  Protection can occur from undervoltage of the 12V supply and by overheating. Capacitor C33 for the +12V supply is 100uF rated for 16V and 85C. I replaced mine with a 100uF rated at 25V and 105C. I also added a 4mm 5-volt fan mounted on the fron of the power supply board to blow air on the first heat sink at the fron of the unit. I powered it from the 3.3V supply. Before all this the unit would go into protection and shut downevery 20 minutes or so, even with nothing connected to it. Now it has been working fine for over 2 days.   When I first seen the "PROTECTION" problem I thought it was a programming problem. I still had a take in warrantee in effect and they replaced the board for a cost value of $207.00 free under the warrantee.
